It's the end of the world as we know it…

Okay, so the title of this story wasn't taken from the song. Not really.

But I won't deny that the song was sort of playing in my head when I came up with the title.

This story was hard for me to write. Not in terms of actually putting pen to paper—or, in my case, fingers to keyboard—because I can type ridiculously fast. No, the hard part was coming up with an idea for the story at all.

Because, after watching the season finale, I was left cold. I mean, no ideas at all. I knew I wanted to write something. That ending begged for a story. But if there's ever been a season finale to a story that I felt less inspired to write about, I haven't seen it.

Which is a shame, because I like this show. But the ending for last season was really just awful. Like, I wished that I could just pretend it didn't happen, awful.

That being said, I knew I had something to say about it. And I knew that Kensi would have some sort of reaction to it. But it took me a long time to work up an idea and even get as far as writing that first line (which almost never comes that hard for me).

So, I decided to make this a story about friendship and unrequited love. It isn't perfect, but it works. And it let me play with the Kensi/Deeks dynamic a little more. I haven't written much Deeks, so it was good to practice.

I'm looking forward to the season premier later this month, if for no other reason than because something has to wash that lousy taste out of my mouth after watching Callen get arrested.
