James Bond: Secret Agent Man

I have seen every Bond film ever made. At least once.

I've always loved the interactions between Bond and Moneypenny. There's always been something so sexy and fun about the way they flirted with each other. And while Bond went through women at an alarming rate, even in the same movie, Moneypenny was the constant. She played hard to get, she flirted but with full knowledge of who he was and what he was capable of.

It made me wonder what would happen if they did actually take it beyond flirting. Could James be serious about going out with Moneypenny? Could Moneypenny actually trust that Bond was there for her and not just his latest conquest?

But what was the real genesis of this story was the idea that James Bond is an alias that every 007 uses. So, it's a secret identity, and not the name of the agent himself. And, if that were true of Bond, would it be true of Moneypenny, too? Well, yes, because, as we all know, Moneypenny would have to be nigh onto eighty years old by now if she were the same woman. So, the conversation in this story plays off of that idea.

I gave Moneypenny the first name Jane, which is the name used in The Moneypenny Diaries. The Moneypenny I had in mind when I was writing this was Samantha Bond, who played Moneypenny in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day. And, Bond's "real" name—Archibald Leach—is actually the real name of Cary Grant, who was one of the actors under consideration for the part of James Bond in the very first Bond film, Dr. No.
